When you want to watch YouTube videos on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, point the web browser to YouTube.com or download the free YouTube application from the App Store, search for a video and view it. If you want to watch your favorite YouTube videos over and over again, even when you are not connected to the Internet, download YouTube videos on your iPhone or iPod touch using one of the available tools.
Software to Download YouTube videos to iPhone
There are several tools available that save YouTube videos. Some are websites, others are programs that run on a computer and others are applications that run directly on an iPhone. Although this list is far from exhaustive, here are some options to consider.
We recommend that you read the comments before paying for an application or service.
IOTransfer: Software for Windows (directly downloads and transfers videos to iPhone/iPad).
KeepVid: A web-based tool with a desktop version available (free).
Play the Media Catcher: Software for Windows and Mac (for a fee).
Zamzar: A web-based tool (free).
How to Save YouTube videos
The exact steps required to download videos depend on the program you use. These instructions apply broadly to most of the tools used to download videos.
- Choose a tool from the list above or look for another option in the App Store or online. Here we take IOTransfer as an example. Download link, https://www.iotransfer.net/downloadcenter.php?product=iotransferpc
- Install the tool and open it, then go to YouTube and find the video you want to download.
- You may have to copy and paste the video URL into the download application as below.
- Tick off the checkbox in front of the “Automatically transfer the downloaded videos into your iOS device”. At this moment, of course, your iPhone should be connected to the computer. Then you can view the video on your iPhone or iPad now.

Most programs cannot directly download videos from YouTube to iPhone. If you are on a computer, transfer the video to your phone or tablet through iTunes.
Search for the video file, drag it to iTunes and sync the iPhone with the computer.
On the Movies tab of the iTunes sync screen, check the box next to the video you just downloaded from YouTube, and then click Sync.
YouTube video is downloaded to your device like any other video, and you can watch it whenever and wherever you want. You can also see it in the preinstalled Videos application.
If the application has not saved the video, check the preinstalled Apple TV application. In it, you will see all the videos on your device, including the one you just added. Touch it to watch the video.
Should you download videos from YouTube?
When people or organizations post videos on YouTube, they want to share their content, but they may also want to make money. Many video creators get a share of the advertising revenue generated by their videos. Some people make videos as a full-time job and depend on advertising revenue. When you save videos offline, those ads don’t play and the creators of the video don’t make money.
In addition to video creators, YouTube earns money with ads. It has employees and expenses and both are paid, in part, with advertising revenue.
You should only download videos for personal and private use. Otherwise, there is a risk of violating the copyright of the creator and suffering sanctions under Copyright Law.
Watch YouTube videos on old iPods
Some older iPods play video, but none connect to the Internet or run iOS applications. If you want to watch videos on those models, use a web-based tool or desktop software to download YouTube videos to a computer and then sync them to your iPod. The oldest iPod models that can play video are:
iPod Classic
iPod nano, 3rd generation to 7th generation
iPod Video
YouTube is not the only place to download videos. Other sites are streaming platforms like Netflix.
